The organizational structure is PK-3, 4-6, 7-8 and 9-12. The average teacher/student ratio is 14/1. Learning opportunities include technology education, extended day and year enrichment activities, advanced placement, concurrent enrollment, distance learning, fine arts, vocational classes, honors curriculum, tutoring, alternative education, community education classes, Southern Oklahoma Technology Center classes, and special need classes. Accelerated Reader, Character Education and Great Expectations are district initiatives that are making a significant impact on student achievement and personal growth.

Along with comprehensive curriculum, students are provided extensive student activity programs. They include academic teams, athletic teams, vocal music, band, FFA, FBLA, FCA, Builders Club, Key Club, 4-H, Speech, Art Club, Close Up, and "ultimate" field trips to Epcot Center in Florida and Washington, DC. The school offers students unlimited learning opportunities with a personal touch.

The district wide technology initiative has integrated the world of instant information and communication into every aspect of the school culture. The libraries are automated; most every classroom has teacher and student computer desktop work stations, computer labs at every site, and a fiber network that provides world class internet access.

The community takes pride in the school and gives enthusiastic support to the students. This partnership includes local civics clubs, Main Street, Chamber of Commerce, AARP, Ministerial Alliance, Oklahoma School for the Deaf, Oklahoma Veterans Center, Chickasaw National Recreation Area, county government, and city government.

In the 1990's, over $2.25 million in general obligation bonds to provide excellent facilities passed with a 70% voter approval.

Sulphur Public Schools encourage active, direct involvement of parents and patrons in the development of an effective, dynamic educational program.

 

Oklahoma School for the Deaf

Oklahoma School for the Deaf was first established as a part of a private school for the blind at Fort Gibson in 1897. The Territorial School for the Deaf was founded in Guthrie in 1898. The school was moved to Guthrie in 1898. The school was moved to Sulphur in 1908. In 1982, the school was legislatively designated as a statewide resource center for the needs of deaf children and school districts across the state.

The academic program is accredited by the Oklahoma Department of Education and the vocational program by the Department of Vocation and Technical Education. The Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs also accredit OSD for the Deaf, Inc. and North Central Accreditation.

OSD employs 160 workers, including teachers, house parents, recreational, maintenance, food service, nursing, counseling, social services, and business professionals. This diverse work force includes 13% Native Americans.

Three universities and one Oklahoma community college cooperate to serve thousands of southern Oklahoma students with college and university classes and degrees. The University and College Center of Ardmore, known as the Ardmore Higher Education Center, delivers classes from East Central University (Ada), Murray State College (Tishomingo), and Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Durant). Freshmen through graduate classes are taught and students can earn an associate, bachelor, or master's degree through one of the three participating institutions.

Training for jobs in technical and trade vocations is available through the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center. More than 70 courses provide the chance to train in fields as diverse as nursing, electronics, auto mechanics, culinary arts, business, carpentry and cosmetology. There is no tuition charge to full-time students who reside in the district. Tuition for part-time adult courses is moderately priced. Some courses are offered at the Murray County branch located at 4000 W. Hwy 7 in Sulphur.

As a two-year institution founded in 1908, Murray State College is here to serve you, to assist you by providing avenues for self-fulfillment and self-advancement. Murray State has quality educational offerings in both two-year associate of applied science degree programs and in two-year transfer associate in arts and associate in science degree programs. Being a small two-year college, Murray State can provide you with "hands on" learning experiences, one-on-one interaction with instructors and staff, and an atmosphere where the student is a person, not just an enrollment number.

East Central University

East Central is a member institution of the Oklahoma System of Higher Education. The Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges is the governing body.

East Central University offers thirty-two baccalaureate degrees, seven master's degrees and a number of certificate programs. Although over 4400 students attend ECU, class sizes are small, allowing faculty to devote their attention to each and every student. Quality teaching and concern for student learning are ever most at the forefront of faculty interests and pursuits. This is a university committed to students.
